Grow in part shade or filtered sun in moist, organically rich soil. Plant outdoors in a sheltered location after the last frost date. Rhizomes or tuberous roots can be started indoors in pots or containers, then moved outside after the last frost. Pots may be sunk into the garden up to the rim, or containers can be placed on the patio. Water and fertilize regularly throughout the growing season. Before the first fall frost, bring containers indoors and overwinter in a cool, humid location around 60–65°F. Reduce watering during winter and return plants outdoors in spring.
