Rounded, deciduous shrub produces arching branches. In spring, purple buds open to slightly fragrant clusters of white blooms covering the branches before the leaves unfold. Profuse blooming makes this a great specimen for the shrub border. Works well with yellow forsythias.

Grow in well-drained soil with full sun to light shade. Prefers sun, but tolerates some shade and drought. Avoid wet spots. Prune right after flowering—buds form on new growth. Shape it every few years to keep it looking its best.
