Forty-two years ago, Woody and JoAnn Scott purchased the former Villa Orchard atop Apple Hill in Glastonbury. They started a family and have worked hard over the years to build a successful business. While the orchard was the original focus, a garden center/nursery/landscape company was added about 15 years ago and has been evolving ever since.
Many customers have recollections of apple picking from years back. There are 25 acres of trees in the orchard still supplying fruit and happy memories to all who visit during the pick-your-own season. But, most of the folks who visit now come for the gorgeous plants – some of which we grow here on the farm, others we buy locally!
The busy season kicks off in March and zips by until summer. After the planting season, Scott's Farmstand opens with local produce. Our own delicious blueberries, raspberries, and sweet corn (Wethersfield) arrive daily, along with a nice selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Through the summer the orchard yields peaches and plums, then the apples and pears mature. During the harvest, we are open for pick-your-own and celebrate with family-oriented weekend festivals. Our home-grown mum crop and the mountains of pumpkins bring a colorful end to the growing season.
In November, cut Christmas trees and fragrant greens fill the sales area. By mid-December, the holiday decorating is done and the Scott's crew is off for a long winter's nap. It won't be long before the familiar faces of staff are back to help the many wonderful customers who shop at Scott's! Thank you!
